Irrational Games, the studio that makes BioShock, is shutting down!

Irrational Games, the studio that makes BioShock, is shutting down!

BioShock creator Ken Levine said today that he plans to move on to smaller, narrative-heavy games that will be released digitally.

Levine, who ran Irrational, announced the news on the Irrational Games website today, noting that he'll be starting "a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two" and laying off all but 15 people.

"While I'm deeply proud of what we've accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a different kind of game than we've done before," Levine wrote. "To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers. In many ways, it will be a return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience."

Bandai Namco’s Roadmap for 2014

Bandai Namco’s roadmap for 2014 includes a bunch of games heading to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, including a couple of fighters, a first-person shooter, an RPG and a brand new IP, Lords of the Fallen.

Bandai Namco (that’s how they want their name listed now) made their 2014 plans official with a recent games showcase in San Francisco, which Sony Social Media Specialist Ryan Clements was on-hand to summarize. And, as Clements points out, it’s looking to be a pretty busy year for the publisher.

What do fallen gods and iconic ninjas have in common? Bandai Namco, of course,” he said in his report. “Earlier this week, the publisher held a showcase in San Francisco to exhibit its 2014 lineup. A diverse sampling of games made an appearance, some for the first time since their announcement.”

We all know that Dark Souls II is set to brutalize gamers in about a month, but another dark and gritty tale of monster-slaying, armor-wearing and sword-swinging is coming from the Bandai Namco team, this time in the form of Lords of the Fallen.

Coming from the team at CI Games, Lords of the Fallen tells the tale of a forgotten warlord of a god whose power is finally returning. The player will take on the role of Harkyn, a lone soldier bent on destroying the minions of the lord of the fallen and sending him back to an eternal slumber. Similar to Dark Souls, the combat engine is largely timing based, meaning patient, thoughtful players will be rewarded while those who prefer to run in a-swingin’ will be punished. Look for Lords of the Fallen on PS4 sometime this year.

Next up is Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s a new Naruto fighting game from the folks at Cyberconnect2 so, yeah, do I really need to say anything more about this one?

Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day, a new game headed to the PS3 this spring, however, is likely only just now popping up on your radar. You’ll take on the role of a high school girls who also just so happens to be an assassin in this side-scrolling action game coming from the always over-the-top Suda 51.

Tales fans can jump for joy in just a few short weeks as Bandai Namco reminds everyone that Tales of Symphonia Chronicles will be coming to the PS3 on Feb. 25, while the free-to-play dogfighting game, Ace Combat Infinity, is still slated to fly onto the PS3 sometime in the next 12 or so months.

Finally, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure returns to the fighting arena with All-Star Battle for the PS3 this spring, with CryEngine 3-powered first-person shooter Enemy Front set to storm the same console this June.
