New map DLC for Titanfall (War Games)

New map DLC for Titanfall (War Games)

"War Games is a new map for Titanfall, based in a virtual world where Pilots compete in simulated environments of Angel City, Rise and Airbase Sierra," Titanfall.com explains. It's later noted that Titanfall's "Designers imagined a level that was smooth, clean and abstract -- a perfect place to design easy-to-read battle spaces and wallrun paths." And so, War Games was born.

Octodad: The Dadliest Catch for PS4 Review

Octodad: The Dadliest Catch for PS4 Review

What's up everybody? It's Rick back again with another review (I know it's been awhile)
This time It's the amazing fun and short Game Octodad: the Dadliest Catch for the PS4

A lovey tell of friends, family, and Ties!! you may even say it was Fin-Tastic hahaha (ok i'm done, but I did have a Whale of a time.. No really I'm done this time) let's See Octodad starts off on your wedding day, (Yes Octapie can marry humans, Oh and you have two kids?! Alright then.. What did I get myself into)

Ok on to real review

If you’re going to fault Octodad for anything, it won’t be a lack of charm. From its cartoon visuals to its sixties sitcom styling to its warm and quirky humor, it’s practically bursting with the stuff. Here is a game where the hero is an octopus who has disguised himself as a human, got married, and somehow spawned human kids.

He’s the ultimate fish (well, cephalopod) out of water, desperately trying to fit in while dealing with an anatomy that’s just not fit for purpose. Think your daily life is a struggle? Imagine supermarket shopping when your arms and legs are tentacles and you’re doing your best to make them work like human limbs.

This is both Octodad’s main gag and the mainstay of its gameplay. You move by swinging your lower tentacles one at a time with rapid squeezes of the PS4 DualShock 4's L2 and R2 triggers. You manipulate objects by maneuvering your arm tentacles with the analogue sticks and latching on with the R2 or X button.

The controls are intentionally slack and fuzzy, transforming our hapless hero from a weird-looking gent in a nice blue suit into the focus for scenes of utter chaos, as unwanted items get tangled in your tentacles, or you flibber and flubber your way through the scenery, scattering everything in your way.

The point of Octodad isn't to play well, but to have fun when you play badly. You can and will fail, but only when your exploits get so much attention that your dreadful secret is finally uncovered.

Yet Octodad has two big problems.

The first is that it proves you can be funny without always being fun. The deliberately vague controls are what make Octodad so entertaining, but not when you give players tasks that require precision and/or speed, causing them to either fail repeatedly or fall and struggle their way up or along some chunk of scenery all over again for the umpteenth time. It’s not a hugely difficult or challenging game, but there are points where the controls stop being part of the enjoyment, and simply make the game frustrating.

The second is that it’s both short and unevenly paced. I'm not actually too worried about the first bit – this isn't a game you want to go on and on – but it seems like some of the best and most imaginative sections crop up early on, while the later parts can be a struggle.

For every section that’s an out-and-out hit, there’s another that seems needlessly prolonged, with objectives that don’t really take you anywhere new or interesting. There’s some extra fun to be had in a two-player co-op mode, which has you sharing control for extra carnage, along with an option to replay completed scenes in a free play mode. All the same, Octodad has a fairly short lifespan.Taking Me just over 2 hours to complete.

Although I really enjoyed the game and will replay it, I can't get pass it being $14.99 US ($11.99 with PS+)
for such a short game!

So with that in mind I give it 7 Angry Chef's out 10.

Heroes of the Storm

Amidst the surge of information from Blizzard's first day of PAX East 2014, the company announced four new playable heroes en route to Heroes of the Storm.

"We’re working hard to create heroes that feel and play very differently than anything we've done in the past," wrote a Blizzard representative.

The next four heroes, pictured above, headed to Heroes of the Storm include:

LiLi - "Lili is a new support hero with an ability set that helps her to very effectively aid her teammates throughout the game."

Brightwing - "Brightwing is a versatile support hero capable of teleporting from ally to ally, healing them and providing them with the help they need to succeed in battle.

"Zagara - "Zagara has map-wide components to her design; she can drop Creep Tumors to spread Zerg Creep, which helps speed up her movement speed, as well as the speed of her summons.

"Murky - "Murky is going to die A LOT, but he’s a hero who eventually overwhelms enemies across multiple battles. He doesn’t need to win every fight; he just needs to win once."

Titanfall Review

Titanfall Review

Hey everyone!  It's me Cody "Captain" Tassin, here again with another award-worthy review, this time it is the breakout XBOX One game Titanfall!  Titanfall is a humble story about giant bad ass robots (or mechs) that the player is able to pilot in order to annihilate his/her enemies.  I found that Titanfall took, what I believe to be an overdone type of multi-player, and added new elements that make the game both refreshing and entertaining.  One of those elements happens to be giant bad ass robots, but that is neither here nor there.  Titanfall adds depth to a genre that in recent years, has lead me to believe did not exist, but is not exactly perfect, and this review will explain exactly what I mean by that.

By far the most interesting and surprising part of Titanfall, that I really enjoyed, is how much the terrain plays a part in the gameplay.  While certain shooter/combat genres (which will not be named) seem to let you play only in a horizontal sense, Titanfall's gameplay and terrain, allow you to incorporate a more vertical style of destroying your foes such as a double-jump, and wall-run.  Losing your Titan during combat allows you also to eject high into the air, giving you a chance to scope out the landscape, and maybe gain a tactical advantage against your opponents.  Although, there are no Titans that are airborne-capable yet (wink wink EA and Respawn Entertainment), playing as a pilot allows all kinds of possibilities and avenues on which you can achieve your objectives.  Unfortunately for now, there are only a few types of gameplay (Attrition, Last Titan Standing, Hardpoint etc.) I can only hope that new DLC will introduce even more depth to an already deep game.

Titanfall isn't without faults; however, as the Campaign mode is severely lacking in an actual story that could help spawn a new sci-fi/action universe that could define not only the XBOX One, but the next-gen consoles as a whole.  First off, the Campaign mode is strictly multi-player, as you face off against other online players in an attempt to accomplish..... something, I never really understood what it was exactly.  There does appear to be some kind of story amongst the chaos and the bloodshed as the Campaign progresses, but it feels really difficult to take it in as you worry about more experienced Titanfall players cloaking themselves and snapping your neck from behind.  The potential for Titanfall to have a mythology that can overcome generational obstacles is definitely there, but it feels poorly executed, and clouded.  Also, WHEN IS KICKING PEOPLE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN BULLETS!?!?!?

Titanfall is frankly a breath of fresh air, compared to many of its "competitors."  The different dimensions it brings to a genre that is over-saturated with "more of the same" has made it keep pace with all the hype that came before its release.  I highly recommend Titanfall to all XBOX One owners, as I think it has easily become the best game for the system to this point of the year (until Destiny is released).  As for the PS4 and PC users out there, you should wait with impatience until Titanfall reaches you.  And for the Wii-U only players out there why are you reading this?

Final Diagnosis:  Titanfall gets 8.5 trampled AI bots out of 10.
