Minecraft Sold and Markus ‘Notch’ Persson Gone..

Mojang has confirmed it's being sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion.

The news was confirmed on the developer's official site, in which it also went into some of the reasons for the decision. As has previously been discussed, a large part of it centers on founder Markus ‘Notch’ Persson growing tired of working for such a big organisation. He and the two other founders, Carl and Jakob are all leaving the company following the deal.

"Minecraft has grown from a simple game to a project of monumental significance. Though we’re massively proud of what

Minecraft has become, it was never Notch’s intention for it to get this big," a statement reads. "As you might already know, Notch is the creator of Minecraft and the majority shareholder at Mojang. He’s decided that he doesn't want the responsibility of owning a company of such global significance. Over the past few years he’s made attempts to work on smaller projects, but the pressure of owning Minecraft became too much for him to handle. The only option was to sell Mojang. He’ll continue to do cool stuff though. Don’t worry about that.

"There are only a handful of potential buyers with the resources to grow Minecraft on a scale that it deserves. We’ve worked closely with Microsoft since 2012, and have been impressed by their continued dedication to our game and its development. We’re confident that Minecraft will continue to grow in an awesome way."

As had been reported, the PC, Mac, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Vita, iOS, and Android editions will continue to be supported and developed as they currently are, despite the deal. While the blog post promises things will continue to develop, it's unlikely to stop players from making videos, mods or anything else that makes Minecraft so special today. The post concludes by explaining its unclear where this leaves other projects, like Scrolls, but it seems Minecraft is Microsoft's main focus.

Microsoft expects to break even on its Mojang acquisition by the end of June 2015, according to an investor relations release.

Games Industry reports that the press release explains the company "expects the acquisition to be break even in FY15 on a GAAP basis." The acquisition should close later this year.

"Gaming is a top activity spanning devices, from PCs and consoles to tablets and mobile, with billions of hours spent each year," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. "Minecraft is more than a great game franchise - it is an open world platform, driven by a vibrant community we care deeply about, and rich with new opportunities for that community and for Microsoft."

Valiant Hearts Review

It is difficult to find a truly intelligent puzzle game in the fast action-packed world that is the current generation of video games.  It is even far more difficult if that puzzle game you discover; not only pushes you care about the story and the characters, but naturally forces you (in a good way) to look more in-depth to what really is occurring within the game.  That is what Valiant Hearts: The Great War, accomplished with flying colors.  On the surface it is your charming and challenging puzzle/adventure game, but once you begin your journey, the somber mood of the story and the relentless reserve of the characters really brings you into a whole new world of chaos and suffering as you trudge through the horrors of WWI.  Do not fret, however, as Valiant Hearts also expresses strength and resolve among the sea of destruction that definitively creates a remarkable story in both video games, and in the real world.

The mechanics of the game are nearly flawless.  Early on you discover that if you fail to reach your objective, or if you fall in battle, the fault lies solely on you.  The 2D side scrolling  controls are so crisp and well balanced, that it feels that you are actually a part of the world you are forced to survive.  The visuals are absolutely stunning with each frame being more beautiful as the last.  The art design is really what brings the whole game together and truly defines it.  Whether it is the grass on the foreground, or the explosions in the background, Valiant Hearts' creative art design gives it a visually stunning personality.  The sounds are as authentic as I have ever heard from a war game short of Call of Duty 2.  From explosions to machine gun fire, the situations the player is placed into truly feel genuine, causing the player to feel more in-tune with the game itself.  From the controls, to the graphics, and the sound, Valiant Hearts really excel in bringing the players to really enjoy a game, instead of just playing it.

However, Valiant Hearts is not perfect.  Occasionally the puzzles you encounter can drag on to the point of boredom causing you to lose interest, or track of the story.  The majority of the puzzles are quick and do not take so much time that you forget about your surroundings, but are a few that you notice to either be solved in a less than creative way, or is just plain dumb.  For example there is a puzzle where have to save some people from various gas attacks, and in order to reach a gas-mask, you must punch a hook in order (and then raise it) in order to reach the mask.  Some of the mini-games can also be arduous and tedious causing many "groan" worthy moments.  Constantly bombarding the player with many "let's stop and do this for five minutes" situations can really cause you to not enjoy the game as much as you could.  Fortunately the good overwhelmingly outweighs the bad in Valiant Hearts.

Valiant Hearts is well worth the buy, as it creates a chaotic, yet hopeful world that lets you truly enjoy the story and the characters.  With the controls being as strong as they are, the visuals being beautiful all throughout the game, and the audio bringing you an authentic war-like experience that few other games can muster, Valiant Hearts is a complete game that cannot passed up by the gamer community.  Valiant Hearts could make a strong case for Indie Game of the Year easily, even if they were competing with some of the greatest indie games ever made.  Valiant Hearts is an emotional tale of the horrors of war, and the lives it affects, but also tells a tale of resolve, friendship, and family that makes you literally tear up during moments of the game.  If you play Valiant Hearts be sure to equip yourself with many tissues!!

Valiant Hearts receives 9 giant spoons out of 10.

MineCraft Xbox One release date Announced..With upgrade program

It’s official: Minecraft on Xbox One has a release date. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will launch on Friday, September 5th and will cost $19.99.

Better yet, if you already own Minecraft on Xbox 360, you'll get a significant discount. The game will only cost $4.99 for those who already purchased it on Microsoft's last-gen console. (According to Microsoft, "To qualify for the $4.99 USD upgrade offer, players must own the retail disc or digital version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and connect to Xbox Live with their account.")

Minecraft on Xbox One allows for worlds to be created that are up to 36 times bigger than the worlds possible on Xbox 360. The game will support four player split-screen for local play, and can accommodate up to eight players at a time via Xbox Live.

Xbox One's iteration of Minecraft was originally announced at E3 in 2013, and it seems that Microsoft expected it would be done a lot sooner than it was; Microsoft's Phil Spencer told IGN that it would be ready "really soon" way back in late March. However, it appears that porting studio 4J Studios may have had some issues getting the game finished and ready for certification. Indeed, they were fairly public about the game failing certification on PlayStation 4.

Minecraft has been a smash-hit for its developer Mojang, and has experienced commercial, mainstream success the likes of which few studios could imagine. As of late June, the game had sold over 54 million copies, a majority of them on console, an interesting statistic considering Minecraft's heritage on PC, where it's managed to sell 16 million copies as of July.

As for Minecraft on PlayStation 4 (as well as PlayStation Vita)? We continue to wait, though there are signs that the launch is close. Indeed, it may launch as soon as tomorrow (Wednesday, September 3rd), at least in Europe.
