EA Sports revealed the modes for NHL 15, and it looks like PS4 and Xbox One owners will just have to be happy with the upgraded graphics and physics as the popular EA Sports Hockey League won't be present in the next-gen versions of the game.
"As a franchise, we’re 100% committed to the EA SPORTS Hockey League," EA Sports producer Sean Ramjagsingh wrote on the EA Sports website. The reason for the omission from the next-gen versions of the game came down to a lack of confidence on the part of EA in the quality of the mode. "We’re a franchise built on quality," he said.
Another notable mode that will release on Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, but not their newer counterparts, is the Online Team Play mode. However, unlike EASHL, OTP is planned to be added to the next-gen versions of NHL 15 in a future content update.
The remaining confirmed modes for all versions of the game are as follows:
.Play Now
.Be A Pro
.Be A GM
.Online Versus
.Hockey Ultimate Team
.NHL Moments Live
This is a big omission for fans of the series, who've come to enjoy the competitive EASHL mode first introduced in NHL 09.

After two years working on Bungie's Destiny, writer Joshua Rubin is departing the studio to work on Telltale Games' upcoming Game of Thrones project.
"It's a privilege to be working on Telltale's Game of Thrones," Rubin said via Twitter. "I am such a massive fan of the HBO show!"
Rubin previously served as the lead writer at Visceral Games and Capcom, and penned the script for Assassin's Creed II,
Rubin said that, despite his years of experience writing video games, he has a high bar to meet.
"[David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss have set an incredibly high standard for writing," Rubin said. "I'm inspired by their work every season. I’m gonna have to up my game!"
Telltale confirmed development on the Game of Thrones project in December, saying the game won't be a prequel to the HBO show, but instead run parallel to the series. Not much else is known about the game, but HBO announced it would be a "multi-year, multi-title partnership between Telltale and HBO Global Licensing, targeted to premiere digitally in 2014 with an episodic game series for home consoles, PC/Mac, and mobile devices. Specific platform details are yet to be announced."
Following the recent outcry surrounding Rise of the Tomb Raider's Xbox exclusivity, Eurogamer has released the full transcript of the Gamescom discussion it had with Xbox head Phil Spencer about the deal between Microsoft and Square Enix.
"I knew there would be some push back when we came out. Certain people won't believe this: [the acquisition] doesn't come from an evil space.
"It comes from a space where there's an opportunity that maps really well with what we need in terms of the genre, and a partner that's looking for a partnership," Spencer said in an effort to dispel the idea that Microsoft acquired the deal to spite owners of other platforms. "Other people can do the deal, but it was a deal that fit well with us. And I think it could help the franchise in the long run and help Crystal and Square and us."
Because the exclusivity is timed and Microsoft does not own the IP, Rise of the Tomb Raider could possibly release on other platforms in the future. Spencer was hesitant to say anything about that, however, focusing on the fact that the Tomb Raider IP is not his property.
"I don't own the IP," he said. "So then when certain people start talking to me about, well, what is the future of the Tomb Raider franchise, it's not really something I can talk to. Just like if you were going to ask me what's going on with Dead Rising 6, I don't own that. So, when people want me to say, well can you tell us when or if it's coming to other platforms, it's not my job. My job is not to talk about games I don't own."
In response to a question of whether or not the acquisition is a response to Uncharted 4, Spencer confirmed that he was looking to build the Xbox portfolio and add something to compete with Sony's action-adventure series.
"I'm a big fan of Uncharted, and I wish we had an action adventure game of that ilk. We've started some, and we've looked at them. But we don't have one today of that quality. This is an opportunity," he said. "... When you think about our portfolio, if it was a sci-fi shooter, I probably wouldn't do that! I've got one of those! Or if it's a Gears competitor, or a Forza competitor, there are things I wouldn't go after. But this is one that clearly fit in our portfolio really well."
He continued to express his optimism about the future of the franchise on Xbox platforms. "I think it's a win/win. It's good for us. We've got certain needs out of it. I think it could be good for them [Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics].
"And, frankly and I know a lot of people won't like this but I'll say it I think it can be good for the franchise and good for gaming all up, because it's a franchise that's meant something, and we're going to be able to work with them and invest and try to put the marketing and everything else at a level, and we're active in working with them on the development of the game as well, to try to make it one of those franchises that stands out."
Microsoft's press conference at Gamescom 2014 showed the platform's deepening commitment to games, but it wasn't without a few notable entertainment and hardware updates.
Here is all of the biggest Xbox news of the day in one place.
)1. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be Xbox-exclusive when it launches in 2015
)2. The Halo 5: Guardians beta won't be the usual sort of Halo experience we've come to expect. The grander scale of Halo 4 will be dialed down to focus on more tense, intimate 4v4 fights in seven smaller arenas.
)3. Halo 2's Sanctuary is getting a full-on reboot in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Plus, The Halo Channel was announced, and if you're into learning about the series, love watching pro players, or just want a preview of upcoming stuff, this could be great.
)4. Evolve beta on Xbox One kicks off in January and All Evolve DLC will come to Xbox first.
)5. Smite, the 3rd person MOBA, will be coming to consoles, starting with Xbox One. It was one of several games announced as part of the ID@Xbox initiative. Joining Smite are a slew of other games, including the time-bending indie FPS Superhot, Capy's immersive-looking dungeon crawler Below, and a Team 17 published prison break game called The Escapists.
)6. Call of Duty Advanced Warfare will be getting an Xbox One hardware bundle on November 3rd, and it will include, among other things, a whopping 1 TB hard drive. For 499.99
)7. Zoo Tycoon developer Frontier is developing Screamride, Microsoft announced during its Gamescom 2014 media briefing. The new IP launches in 2015 exclusively on Xbox.
Alright as I said earlier instead of posting every little thing as soon as it's announced. I will be doing 2 - 3 big updates. Here's number one Sony's.
)1. A new indie game, In Space We Brawl, has been announced for PS4 and PS Vita.
The news was revealed at Gamescom 2014 during Sony's presentation. In Space We Brawl is an arcade-style competitive multiplayer twin-stick shooter in development by Forge Reply.
No release date has been set, but the trailer says it is "coming soon."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
)2. Today, long-time Sony partner studio Housemarque revealed its new game. It's called Alienation, and it's coming exclusively to PlayStation 4.
We know little about the project right now, other than that it's sci-fi-inspired and looks a great deal like what Housemarque is best-known for. In other words, it's likely a twin-stick shooter. The game looks beautiful -- much like Resogun did and it's being developed and published in cooperation with Sony, just like Super Stardust HD, Super Stardust Delta, Dead Nation, and Resogun.
Indeed, speaking of Dead Nation, the game looks a great deal like a spiritual successor to Housemarque's zombie shooter.
)3. Tearaway is officially coming to PlayStation 4. It's called Tearaway Unfolded, and it's essentially the same game, just altered to fit onto console.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
)4. It's official: Until Dawn is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4.
Word came out of Sony's Gamescom press conference, where it was revealed that the former PlayStation 3-exclusive game has been shifted over to Sony's new hardware. The game comes by way of UK developer Supermassive Games
