Is the current PlayStation 4 system shortage genuine?!

The current PlayStation 4 system shortage is genuine, not an artificial phenomenon used as a

means to drum up excitement for the platform, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton has said. Speaking during the latest PlayStation Blogcast, Tretton said holding back systems to create an artificial shortage would be silly, given the increased competition around the holidays.

"Do you create an artificial shortage because you want there to be a feeding frenzy? No you don't," Tretton said. "You have competition out there; there are lots of things that people can spend money on, especially during the holidays; and the holidays only come around once a year so that's really when you want to take advantage of the market opportunity."

The reason, then, that PS4 systems remain out of stock at many retailers simply comes down to the time needed to manufacture the systems, Tretton said. He explained that it took "months" to create the 1 million systems sold on launch-day and the second million sold weeks later.

Additional PS4s will be available for shoppers ahead of the end of the holiday season, Tretton said, and another allotment is planned to come to market during the January-March quarter.

Sony expects to sell 3 million total systems worldwide by the end of 2013 (now just 15 days away) and 5 million by the end of March 2014.

Also during the podcast, Tretton revealed that he gave up his PS4 launch unit so it could be sold instead. "I don't have one yet because I'm like 'No, sell it,'" he said.

The PS4 launched on November 15 in North America and is now currently available in 48 markets around the world, compared to 13 for the Xbox One.

New Microsoft Security features to help account holders

Microsoft has rolled out extra security features to help account holders across all platforms remain in control of their data, amid reports of NSA snooping on services including Xbox Live.

The new features include a Recent Activity list, showing sign-ins and other account activity. A simple this wasnt me button will allow users to alert Microsoft to security breaches.

New recovery codes have been added to allow users to retrieve their account should they misplace log-in details entirely.

Microsoft has also implemented the ability to choose where security notifications such as password resets are sent.

The new features will arrive over the next couple of days, according to a post from Microsoft Accounts group program manager Eric Doerr on Microsofts official TechNet blog.

Konami requests Skullgirls be removed from Xbox Live and PSN

Fighting game Skullgirls may be removed from the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

During a Twitch stream, Skullgirls design director Mike Zaimont revealed Konami had requested the game be de-listed from PSN and Xbox Live with Sony and Microsoft.

Zaimont said co-publisher Autumn Games only found out about the request after the first parties had approved it. "That's amazingly annoying," he said.

Now, Autumn Games is frantically trying to submit a new version of the game to Sony Computer Entertainment America's QA department before it leaves for Christmas on the 17th December. If it fails QA, the game will likely disappear from PSN on that date.

Those who already own the game can continue to play offline, but it is unclear whether online play will be affected because, according to Sony, this has never happened before.

While there is a chance Skullgirls may survive on the US PSN, it looks likely it'll disappear from the European PSN, as Autumn Games doesn't have a quick fire route through Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's QA.

Autumn is working with MarvelousAQL to secure a replacement XBLA publishing slot, but it's unclear if the new build will push through Microsoft's testing department before the Christmas break.

Konami is yet to explain why it requested Skullgirls be de-listed from console, and it seems a strange decision considering the Japanese company makes money from each copy sold. Eurogamer has requested comment.

However, the decision may have something to do with last month's news that Autumn Games and Konami had "terminated their business relationship".

"As it's been alluded to in the past, things have not always been hunky-dory between Autumn Games and Konami," Lab Zero Games' Peter Bartholow wrote on Skullgirls' IndieGoGo page at the time.

"Around the time of the last update, it became clear that it would not be possible to proceed with the new patches as long as Konami was involved with Skullgirls.

"So, as of today, Autumn and Konami have terminated their business relationship, allowing us to move forward with the PS3 and Xbox 360 patch in a more timely and cost-effective manner."

In a previous update on the Skullgirls IndieGoGo page, Bartholow hinted at the trouble the developer has had working with Konami on patches.

"We need Konami to help us out some with some things in order to do some Microsoft TRC checks, and thus far they have been completely unresponsive," he wrote in a post published a month ago. "Feel free to use this information however you see fit."

There is a silver lining. If the new version passes QA, it will release with the latest console patches this year.

Black Friday Wal-Mart Videogames

You know, I’m thinking it’s about time to consider changing the term Black Friday to Black Thursday. Retailers are barely letting people finish Thanksgiving dinner before opening their doors to offer some one-time deals. We’ve got a list of other Black Friday sales going already, and now we an add Walmart to the list. Walmart will start its Black Friday dealings from 6pm-7pm on Thursday, November 28. It’s also bringing back the 1-hour in stock guarantee for select items.

As the term suggests, Walmart promises certain items won’t be sold out for at least one hour. If the item does sell out within an hour, Walmart will sell you a guarantee card that ensures you’ll get the item at the Black Friday price before Christmas. Each card is limited to one item per customer.

Entertainment apps to carry Achievements, Microsoft confirms

Entertainment apps to carry Achievements, Microsoft confirms.

"Xbox One is empowering partners to bring media achievements andexclusive Snap experiences, as well as many other things to entertainment apps," said Microsoft in an update on Xbox Wire, "offering everybody the opportunity to achieve badges or rewards for the media they consume in addition to gaming."

The entertainment Achievements appear to be different to Xbox One's Challenges, the time-restricted tasks that do not reward Gamerscore, although it isn't yet clear whether entertainment Achievements will carry Gamerscore.

Call of duty/Medal of Honor Killer?!

Flashback to over a decade ago: you couldn’t move in a newsagent without seeing a video game magazine that had ‘Halo/Mario/GTA killer’ as a massive coverline spread across an image of some new video game. The idea of one game ‘killing’ another was embedded deep in the lexicon of gamers and the gaming press back in the day. To the extent that, in development, the very first Call of Duty was actively being referred to as ‘Medal of Honor Killer’ early in development, reports MCV.

That was what the game was actually called. That was its placeholder name in the beginning.

“The project was actually named ‘MOH killer’ until an official name could be found,” explained former Infinity Ward artist Justin Thomas.

The original Call of Duty was actually developed by many of the folks who worked on the Medal of Honor franchise all those years ago so, in that sense, the title made sense.

“We were focused more on fun than success,” Thomas continued, “with the idea that if it was fun, it would be successful. We were just going to make a great game, and do the things better than we did on previous projects. The great thing is that a team learns from previous projects.”

Good news and bad news for Warhammer Online players

Warhammer Online, due for a shutdown in mid-December, has gone free-to-play as a "parting gift" to those who had an account in good standing as of Thursday. "We will be adding new NPCs to the game in order to power up your characters," Mythic promises.

New WOW expansion?!

A new Blizzard trademark looks a heck of a lot like the name of the next World of Warcraft expansion.

In a trademark filing screengrabbed by MMO Champion, Blizzard is seen to have applied to register the phrase Warlords of Draenor.

The trademark was filed in the usual categories for video games.

The domain warlordsofdraenor.com was registered in early October, too, although according to WhoIs records it was registered via Go Daddy, which is unusual for a corporate registration.

Draenor is a location in the Warcraft universe the homeland of the orcs. It was the primary setting of the first Wold of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade.

The PS4 will require a day one system update (software version 1.50)

The PS4 will require a day one system update (software version 1.50) in order to enable Online Multiplayer, Remote Play, video recording and pretty much every other PS4 feature we've been promised.

The update will be approximately 300MB and includes the following features:

Remote Play: Users will be able to access PS4 titles displayed on their living room TVs and play them on a PS Vita system over Wi-Fi networks by using PS4 Link (Depending on network environment or titles, remote play performance may vary outside of the home). We anticipate that most PS4 titles will be playable on the PS Vita system through Remote Play. The latest PS Vita system software version, to be released soon, will be required to use PS4 Link.

Second Screen: Users can use the PS4 Link application for the PS Vita system, and PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, to use these devices as second screens in supported titles. PlayStation App has the ability to enable users to interact with games with their mobiles devices. For example on The Playroom, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.

Record, take screenshots, and upload gameplay effortlessly: The PS4 system provides dedicated, "always on" video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the Share button on DualShock 4, take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game – the video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 system’s launch, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, though users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Facebook and Twitter.

Broadcast and spectate gameplay: The PS4 system also enhances social spectating by enabling users to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to game fans around the globe, using Ustream and Twitch live internet streaming services (users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Ustream and Twitch). There are two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users. Second, users can spectate friends’ PS4 gameplay from PCs, and applications such as Ustream, Twitch, and browsers, which are installed on their mobile devices. These applications can be easily started up via PlayStation App, and users can also use these applications to post comments to gameplay broadcasts. Furthermore, users with PlayStation Camera can stream camera images and microphone sounds along with their live gameplay broadcast.

Play as you download: This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. The time it takes to begin playing will vary depending on game data size and network environments, and not all titles will support this feature When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.

Multi log-in: A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multiplayer game together on a single PS4 system.

Party (Voice chat): By using the Mono Headset bundled with the PS4 system, users will be able to chat with up to eight friends enjoying different applications or games. Furthermore, users can use Party to chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems.

Face recognition and voice commands: Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DualShock 4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DualShock 4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features; please refer to PS4′s online manual for recognizable voice commands.

Background music player: Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here (LINK: http://www.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/music-unlimited/why-music-unlimited/).

Online Multiplayer: PlayStation Plus members will be able to play PS4 titles online with other players via the network. PS Plus makes it easy for members to join available online multiplayer matches in a variety of ways, including the ability to easily join a game from a live stream broadcast or Party voice chats.

Blu-ray Disc and DVD player: Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents. When using for the first time, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature.

PS4 launches November 29 in the UK.

Without the update we're not sure exactly what the PS4 will be capable of doing.

NBA2k14 PS3 review 2k does it again.

Nba2k14 PS3 review

Well 2k does it again, besides LBJ on the cover (Blazers fan).

I've been a 2k fan since 01, and every year since I get the game on day one,
and like most other people I go to my favorite team and try them out and like most other people get upset because I think they should be rated higher (and some times they should!). So when I saw 2k14 had a new rating system I was skeptical-- but this years is different and it shows, most of the NBA rosters are are completely accurate (for now), and time will tell as the real NBA season starts and players start going off or under, we will see how the new stat tracker works.

The controls this year are a little different as they over hall the right control stick, with dribble moves and shots, along with the new no look passes -- whale the no look passes can be fun if done right, most of the time they will led to turnovers in the middle of a drive or fast brake witch can get frustrating late in the game-- another new addition/upgrade this year is the way the blocks work, in past games it was hard to stop a fast brake dunk... or really just a dunk (or other shots, layups, hooks, under the basket shots, etc.) unless you where a monster big man or LBJ but this year is a lot different (better/easy), now with that being said it doesn't mean whenever you play online or with friends it's going to be a block fest the 2k team did a really good job on balancing it out (shots and blocks), one thing you will notice however is you will end up getting called for fouls later in the game and gold tending seems to get called a little more then past years (when going for blocks) but none of that will really interfere with your in joy meant of the game.

2k once again shows why it's spots games are the best around with NBA2k14 every player has been enhanced to look and play just as they do in real life and I mean every player even the rookies are in amazing detail right down to there tattoos. You will noticed that the arenas look pretty much the same as last year and the trophies are almost identical as last year and some cut seen's are a little outdated, but they're far and few. The sound and reactions of the players and crowed are amazing and makes you feel like you at the game live more so then past years. The player animations have been completely redone this year (well for the most part) and look amazing!

A cool new addition to this year game is the LBJ path to greatness mode (replaces the MJ crating a legend mode) where you can chose to stay with Miami and go for the 3 ring and crate a dynasty or you can go as a free agent and make your own path to the hall of fame with Lebron James, and all though I'm not a KingJames fan I found myself playing and having a lot of fan with this mode.

MyTeams is back this year and better then ever, so is of course MyPlayer mode with a bunch of new stuff to keep you wanting to come back well after your rookie season. Also back is Crews! This year (Thankfully)

Over all it's really easy to see why 2k is the best and most enjoyable basketball game (cough Live cough) around! A most buy! 9 out of 10 (you don't have to be an NBA nut to enjoy this game)

Tom Clancy

Tom Clancy – the hugely successful writer best known for his novels about CIA Agent Jack Ryan – has died aged 66.

The author, who was born in Baltimore, Maryland, also co-founded Red Storm Entertainment and lent his name to the hugely successful Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon games. He was also due to continue this tradition with Ubisoft's latest offering, The Division, due out on next-gen consoles next year.

But he was best known for his Jack Ryan books, with The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears all turned into movies variously starring Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck as the popular hero.

The character is set to return to screens later this year, this time starring Chris Pine, in Jack Ryan: Shadow One.

Clancy passed away in a hospital in Baltimore last night.

Deus Ex Universe

Eidos-Montreal has announced Deus Ex Universe: a series of interconnected games in the Deus Ex franchise, planned to span PC, next-generation consoles, tablets, smartphones, books and graphic novels.

We first heard about Deus Ex Universe through a trademark filing spotted last month, but up until now we didn't know anything about it. In a blog post, studio head David Anfossi described Deus Ex Universe as "an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games.

"It continues, "It’s a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before.

"Deus Ex: Universe will include PC and console games, but also additional Deus Ex games and experiences available in other media such as tablets, smartphones, books, graphic novels, etc..."

Eidos-Montreal has apparently started production on the first product in Deus Ex Universe; a new game for PC and next-generation consoles. Anfossi also added that most of the team who worked on Deus Ex: Human Revolution have already jumped over to the new title.

While we may not have a name for it just yet, we have been given a piece of concept art that supposedly shows "shows trans-humanism segregation, which is a backdrop to our vision for the next Deus Ex. It represents a "ghetto-city' voluntarily built in order to separate the classes. The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex."

Given all the talk of "an ongoing, expanding and connected game world" that'll expand "on a regular basis", the temptation is to assume this may mean a Deus Ex MMO could be on the way in the near future. Until Eidos-Montreal gives us more details though, we're just going to have to be patient.

To tide us over however, the studio has announced the long-awaited Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC on October 22 in North America and on October 25 in Europe and Australia.

Steam Controller

Here is your first look at the Steam Controller, which was unveiled by Valve today marking their third and last announcement for this week. The Steam Controller does away with thumbsticks and replaces them with trackpads, which gamers thumbs will sit over. There is also a touchscreen located in the center. The controller will feature rumble support and has various buttons surrounding the touchscreen as well as around and below the trackpads. Valve has stated that the Steam Controller was designed to work with the entire Steam library. The Steam Controller will be comparable to a high-end PC gaming mouse. More details about the controller will be released in the future. Overall, it seems as if Valve is ready to take on the gaming hardware giants and we believe their success depends on a huge Steam library with continued discounts, future support from developers, simple user accessibility, and competitive console pricing.

Gears of War, Bioshock Infinite Dev Forming New 2K Studio

Rod Fergusson, formerly of Epic Games and Irrational Games, is leading a new studio for 2K Games in the Bay Area, the producer announced in a Tweet today.

Fergusson said he is working on an "exciting new project," and will provide more details soon.

Fergusson left Epic Games to join Irrational August of last year, to help work on Bioshock Infinite. Prior to that, Fergusson served as executive producer and then director of production, participating in development for the entire Gears of War series.

This past April, Fergusson left Irrational as VP of development, saying he had done what he set out to do, and that he was looking forward to the next chapter in his life.

Update: 2K has confirmed to IGN.com that Fergusson will be in charge of the new studio. We will continue to update this story as news develops.

EA has canceled its plans to publish a college football game next year.

EA has canceled its plans to publish a college football game next year.

In a blog post on EA’s official site, EA Sports GM of American football Cam Weber posted, “today I am sad to announce that we will not be publishing a new college football game next year, and we are evaluating our plan for the future of the franchise. This is as profoundly disappointing to the people who make this game as I expect it will be for the millions who enjoy playing it each year.”

We have been stuck in the middle of a dispute between the NCAA and student-athletes who seek compensation for playing college football,” Weber explained. “Just like companies that broadcast college games and those that provide equipment and apparel, we follow rules that are set by the NCAA – but those rules are being challenged by some student-athletes."

"For our part, we are working to settle the lawsuits with the student-athletes," he continued. "Meanwhile, the NCAA and a number of conferences have withdrawn their support of our game. The ongoing legal issues combined with increased questions surrounding schools and conferences have left us in a difficult position – one that challenges our ability to deliver an authentic sports experience, which is the very foundation of EA Sports games.”

Weber added that at EA Sports, “college football has always been a labor of love, and it is unfortunate that these business and legal issues have impacted our ability to make next year’s game. This franchise has been developed by a team that is deeply committed to the tradition and culture of this sport – that’s why fans have always loved it. We are working to retain the talented people who are part of the team by placing them elsewhere within the EA SPORTS organization.”

“In the meantime, we will continue to be connected and engaged with our fans who are playing EA Sports NCAA Football,” he concluded. “Our decision does not affect our commitment to NCAA Football 14 and the consumers who love playing the game.”

The NCAA announced in July that it would not be renewing its contract with EA. EA later signed a three year deal with the College Licensing Company, but soon lost support from conferences including the Big Ten, Pac-12 and Southeastern Conference.

GTA 5 sales crosses 1 billion dollars in just three days

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), released on September 17, 2013 has crossed the $1 billion sales mark in just three days since launch. 56 per cent of Grand Theft Auto 5 sales comes from Xbox 360, with the remainder on PS3.

This is the biggest selling game of all time. It was released on 17 September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

The first Grand Theft Auto was released in the year 1997 by Scottish games developer Dave Jones and his company DMA Games.

Within one day of release, Grand Theft Auto V fetched more than $800 million in revenue, selling around 13 million copies, exceeding the previous first-day sales record of $500 million set by Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two said, “We believe this marks the fastest that any entertainment property, including video games and feature films, has reached this significant milestone.” He added, “We are incredibly proud of the extraordinary critical and commercial response to Grand Theft Auto 5.”

Take-Two Interactive Software stated, “Grand Theft Auto V has achieved worldwide retail sales of more than $1 billion during its first three days on sale, according to our estimates.”

Computerandvideogames.com digital manager John Houlihan said, “GTA V has been worth the five-year wait.”

The previous version Grand Theft Auto IV was released in 2008. According to some estimates of analysts, Take-Two’s Rockstar Games studio developed the game GTA 5 at a cost of between $200 million and $250 million and took more than five years to develop.

Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One console will not support vertical orientation. The company stated that gamers who choose to stand the console vertically will risk damaging it. The statement comes after the company realized that the Xbox 360 console, which supported vertical orientation, would make owners think that the Xbox One will do the same. Xbox One will be available starting November 22, 2013 for North America and most European markets.

Kingdom Hearts 3 new screenshots

Square Enix has released new screenshots for the long-awaited and highly anticipated title Kingdom Hearts 3. Here you can see the HUD setup, which includes the HP and MP bars as well as the same menu on the left, all of which has appeared in the previous two games. While Square Enix released the same trailer from E3 2013 at Tokyo Game Show 2013, it's nice to see the publisher providing some new material from the game. As you all know, the game was recently announced just this year, so while there is no release date announced at the moment, we expect Late 2014 or sometime in 2015
